We are heading to the famous Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta for the premier ballooning event in the North America.
From a small gathering of 13 balloons in 1972, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta has grown to become the largest balloon event in the world. Held each year during the first week in October, the Balloon Fiesta now attracts almost 600 balloons and 1000 pilots. We will work with different balloonists and spread out to get the most compelling images possible. In order to maximize our time with the festive first days of the fiesta, we will meet on Saturday evening for an intensive briefing and start photographing Sunday morning instead of the normal mid-day, adding an extra shoot session to our normal eight.
The air currents around Albuquerque are such that the balloons generally take off to the south. As they gain in elevation, the winds take them northward. Out of repsect for native Americans, they do not land on Pueblo lands.
There are teams from all around the world, along with various contests to test pilots knowledge of the winds and handling of their balloons. Some have pilots land in a very small area!
It is an extraordinary display of color and team work.
For those who wish, there are opportunities to catch a ride in one of the balloons (for a fee, of course).
We'll be based just up the road south of Santa Fé where our hotel has given us an amazing rate. Many hotels double and triple their rates during this annual event, so we feel very lucky!
You will have a great time celebrating your vision and capturing some amazing images as you seek your own vision and interpretation of this fabulous event...
For those who want more time with Margo and Arnie, we offer the opportunity to scout and shoot with them before most of our domestic workshops. We limit this to two people per day who ride in the car with the instructors. During these days while Arnie and Margo do their own photography and final scouting for the workshop, there is also lots of individual instruction and discussions about photography.

One critical note: if you are contemplating buying a new camera, please make sure you have a basic working knowledge of it BEFORE you come to one of our workshops. There are so many variations amongst camera brands, and even within each brand, far too many for us to know and thus be able to help you.
If you have not already done so, be sure to check our FAQs for
questions you may have as well as for equipment and installed downloads you need
to bring to the workshop including, if necessary, the free, 30-day, trial versions
of Adobe and other imaging products.
Rooms can go quickly, so best to not wait too long before signing up. Our special room rates are for participants only. Once we receive your application and monies due at the time of sign-up, we will let our hotel know you are, indeed, with us.
