Southwest Arches & Moab Photo Workshop with Print Element Included
     September 18-21, 2008
     Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon at 2:00 (free bonus half day on Thursday)

Join our digital photography workshop, strengthen your eye, and learn about the magic of light in the Moab area of the Southwest that has drawn visitors and explorers since 1765. Long before that, from 1-1300 A.D., the Anasazi and Fremont Indians farmed in the region, leaving a record of their cultures through pictographs and petroglyphs. Later, the area was settled by Ute and Navajo tribes.

The stunning and varied scenery in and around Moab has made it perfect for the filming of numerous Westerns since the 1920s, evoking such names as John Ford, John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, and Susan Sarandon and movie titles from "Stage Coach" to "Thelma & Louise."

For those who love geology, this area is a treasure trove, known for its rich variety of sandstones that take on the deep hues of sunrise and sunset. The initiated will recognize many features that you have studied. Over time, the elements, including wind and and water, have sculpted much of this sandstone rock into canyons, incredible shapes, great towers, and imposing walls in addition to the stunning, wind-carved windows and arches of Arches National Park. Everyone will find lots of interesting and challenging subject matter to photograph.

At noon on Thursday, we'll start out with some technical information before heading out for an afternoon of photography, returning in time for our reception. Our workshop includes the following:
  • Maximum 6-to-1 ratio students to instructors
  • Opening wine-and-pizza reception;
  • Primer booklet to help you get started;
  • Early-morrning and late-afternoon shoots;
  • Mid-day processing and tweaking your images with Photoshop and Lightroom;
  • Epson printing element with a booklet of step-by-step instructions;
  • Lots of individual instruction in both the field and classroom;
  • Critiques, both individual and group;
  • Discussions on various aspects of photography, including digital workflow;
  • Final group critique and show; and
  • Lots of fun and frivolity througout!
If you have not already done so, check our FAQs for equipment and installed downloads you need to bring to the workshop including, if necessary, the free, 30-day, trial versions of the Adobe products.

In our print element, our instructors will show you the ins and outs of successfully and easily turning your favorite digital images into stunning prints using a high-quality Epson printer. In fact, in all our domestic workshops, you will end up making a lovely, large, archival print of one of your workshop photographs made with Epson paper and inks to take home with you.

As we said above, our tag line reads, "Create great photos; make great prints!"

Cost:  $825 (discounts available)
