French
Wine Country Photo Workshop June 12-19, 2009
Friday at noon through the following
Friday afternoon at noon
Come to the amazing wine country of Bourgogne and join our digital photography workshop to
strengthen your eye, learn about the magic of light, and sample some great French wines. Quite simply,
Bourgogne — French for "Burgundy" — is a visual feast of
medieval stone villages, traditional molis, small shaded town squares, ancient
châteaux and monasteries, gorgeous views punctuated with graphic rows of
grape vines, and charming wine-tasting rooms. And we haven't even mentioned that
this is home to some of the greatest wines of the world.
The Barefoot Contessa has always traveled off the beaten path, thus gaining access
to places that elude many foreigners. Her love of languages has helped, and she
has spoken fluent French since she was in grade school. This means that you don't even have to worry about speaking the language, although a "Bonjour" or "Merci" is always appreciated!
Margo and her two colleagues, Arnie and
John, have spent a lot of time in France and look forward to sharing this charming
part of the world with you. We will see a number of villages known for their
excellent wines. Some are little known to the general public, as they primarily
cater to private collectors and restaurateurs.
We will be based in the Beaune area of Bourgogne in the heart of wine country. Just down the lane is a wonderful little restaurant
run by a charming couple who cook the most delicious meals imaginable. We will
also sample other cuisine in the area, depending upon our day's location. And
for those who love wine, remember, Bourgogne is arguably the heart and soul of
French wine country. We always find time to do some tastings, and you will not be disappointed, as The Barefoot Contessa has gained access to some pretty special "caves."
Our philosophy follows in a large nutshell:
Travel light and inconspicuously;
Take time to savor what is offered; and
Be adaptable, a necessity, given the nature of photographing in different
locations (Mother Nature has a mind of her own!).
We start off the first day at 1:00 with some technical information before heading out for an afternoon of photography, returning in time for
our evening reception. Our workshop includes the following:
Maximum 6-to-1 ratio students to instructors
Opening wine-and-pizza reception;
Primer booklet to help you get started;
Early-morrning and late-afternoon shoots;
Mid-day processing and tweaking your images with Photoshop and Lightroom;
Epson printing element with a booklet of step-by-step instructions;
Lots of individual instruction in both the field and classroom;
Critiques, both individual and group;
Discussions on various aspects of photography, including digital workflow;
Final group critique and show; and
Lots of fun and frivolity througout!
If you have not already done so, check our FAQs for
equipment and installed downloads you need to bring to the workshop including,
if necessary, the free, 30-day, trial versions of the Adobe products.
