Lighthouses
of the Outer Banks Photo Workshop
with Print Element Included October 30 - November 2,
2008
Thursday noon through Sunday afternoon at 2:00
Join our digital photography workshop, strengthen your eye, and learn about the
magic of light on the famed Outer Banks of North Carolina while photographing
some of its magnificent lighthouses and parts of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
The lighthouses, with their unique shapes and patterns, stand magestically above
the stark, pristine splendor of this area. For the unitiated, each lighthouse
has a unique flash, rather like Morse Code, so even at night, you know which
one you are seeing and photographing.
Surrounding them are the salt marshes with their many varieties of reeds and
grasses, small skiffs dotting the estuaries, changing reflections, wilflife,
and gorgeous sunrises and sunsets. Even in inclement weather, they are dramatic
against a stormy sky.
The National Seashore has many other interesting subjects such as the patterns
of the sand dunes, sea oats and beach peas, birds, and fishermen casting at the
surf's edge. Every year, the weather changes, so the lighthouses take on a different
look, and we will photograph a different lighthouse each day. For our second
location each day, we will select something different from our 2007 workshop.
It should be noted that every time we visit the lighthouses, they take on a different
look, depending upon the weather and time of day.
We will be based in Nags Head, conveniently located for all our locations, making it easier to get up for those early-morning shoots!
At noon on Thursday, we'll start out with some technical information before heading out for an afternoon of photography, returning in time for our reception. Our workshop includes the following:
Maximum 6-to-1 ratio students to instructors
Opening wine-and-pizza reception;
Primer booklet to help you get started;
Early-morrning and late-afternoon shoots;
Mid-day processing and tweaking your images with Photoshop and Lightroom;
Epson printing element with a booklet of step-by-step instructions;
Lots of individual instruction in both the field and classroom;
Critiques, both individual and group;
Discussions on various aspects of photography, including digital workflow;
Final group critique and show; and
Lots of fun and frivolity througout!
If you have not already done so, check our FAQs for
equipment and installed downloads you need to bring to the workshop including,
if necessary, the free, 30-day, trial versions of the Adobe products.
In our print element, our instructors will show
you the ins and outs of successfully and easily turning your favorite digital
images into stunning prints using a high-quality Epson printer. In fact,
in all our domestic workshops, you will end up making a lovely, large, archival print of
one of your workshop photographs made with Epson paper and inks to take home with you.
As we said above, our tag line reads, "Create great photos; make great
prints!"
