BCPA  Out and About and in the News

Arnie and Margo started out the year by giving a seminar in January 2016 for the Carolinas Nature Photographers Association Triangle in Raleigh at the JC Raulston Arboretum, part of NC State University. The subject: Creative or Copycat:  Make It Yours.

In November 2015, Margo and Arnie returned to Kiawah Island to do a presentation, two-session mini workshop, and critique for the Kiawah Island Photo Club. The subject was "Seeking Your Own Vision: Making It Yours." It was very well received, and we had two great groups for our evening and morning shoots.

24 Hour Photoshop
At the request of ASMP/SC, Arnie and Margo made a presentation on "Creativity: Seeking Your Own Vision" at the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC in November 2015.

CNPA (Carolinas Nature Photographers Association) asked Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures to do a weekend. From the reports, those who came passed the word on to fellow members that they missed a great time!

24 Hour Photoshop
In October, 2015, Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures gave a presentation at a retreat put on by ASMP/NC on "Reinventing Yourself in the Digital Age" at The Light Factory in Charlotte, NC.

The Fall issue (September 1, 2015) of "Naturally Kiawah" contained an article on Photographing Kiawah: How the Pros See Us (see pages 20-21) featuring, among others, Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures.

Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures enjoyes speaking engagements that foster good discussions. We often do them on some aspects of Creativity and Seeking Your Own Vision. In July 2014, we spoke to the Capitol City Camera Club in Raleigh, NC, and in January 2015 to the Sandhills Photography Club down in Southern Pines, NC. And in April, 2015, we gave a presentation on Creativity to the Cary Photographic Artists in Cary, NC.

We were featured in an e-mail blast from the excellent magazine, South x Southeast photomagazine in the spring of 2015.

Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures was the lead-off photo workshop featured (one of four) in the September 28, 2014 issue of Exploring Maine, part of the Maine Sunday Telegram, one of four photo workshops and tours featured in that special section.

Margo Taussig Pinkerton was featured as #5 on Page 7 in SlideShare's 12 Simple Steps to be come a better photographer in no time that was released January 2014.

Victoria Bampton, also known as The Lightroom Queen, and Adobe Community Professional & Certified Expert for Lightroom, linked to Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures as a resource for "live" Lightroom workshops. Thank you, Victoria!

The November 6, 2013 issue of North Carolina's Ashe County Chamber E-News gave a nice nod to BCPA's exhibition, The Yin and Yang of the Outer Banks, and weekend photo workshop, NC Mountain Magic, at CatchLight Gallery in West Jefferson.

Indy Week gave The Yin and Yang of the Outer Banks a picture lead in the Arts calendar section of its January 31, 2013 edition. They also gave us an Indypick classification!

Blue Greenberg, an art columnist for the Herald-Sun, wrote about our exhibition, The Yin and Yang of the Outer Banks, in a full-page article in the Friday, February 1, 2013 issue. We were very pleased, as we understand that Ms. Greenberg usually reviews two or three exhibits in her articles. The online version is no longer available. In the paper version, Arnie's photo ran across the full width of the newspaper page.

The Yin and Yang of the Outer Banks
by Margo and Arnie was exhibited at Through This Lens in Durham, NC. January 18 to March 2, 2013. This exhibit presented two sides of the Outer Banks of North Carolina, from the beautiful side that draws so many tourists each year, to the other side, the one where businesses try to make money off the tourists, not always successfully.

The event was broadcast live for 24 straight hours," November 14-15, 2012.

DigiLabsPriBLOG
In October, 2012, Arnie and Margo were featured in a DigiLabsPro blog with lots of photographs from various Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures workshops.

Margo was one of the two judges for the annual Cary Photographic Artists (Cary, NC) in October of 2012.

Arnie was the featured ChatterArtist for October 2012 in Louisa Curtis Chatterbox Enterprises. Louisa was quite taken with Arnie's images from our Paris & la Fête de la Musique. We'll be returning there again in 2013 for this wonderful celebration of Summer Solstice.

Thor's Presence

Our exhibition, Tropical Impressions from Belize (June-July, 2011, Sisters Galleries, Alamance County Arts Council, Graham, NC), met with wonderful accolades and comments. This is beautiful space, and we were very excited to have such a beautifully hung show here. For those who wanted to see the exhibition but could not make it, it is in our Fine Art Galleries.

Meanwhile, we have been lucky to have been featured in the news. Here's a sampling:

The Times News interviewed us for a very nice article on our exhibition (see above), Tropical Impressions from Belize. The article ran in both print and online editions.

The West Palm Beach Examiner
interviewed Nathan Dean, one of our alumn,i in conjunction with a show he had. During the interview, Nat mentioned us several times, complete with links.

ApogeePhoto.com has used a number of our blog tips, with our permission, of course, in their Photo Tips. It has to do with lens cleaning.

Outdoor Photographer told us that we will be one of the workshops listed in an article they are doing on same in the September 2010 online issue.

Outdoor Photographer's August 2010 print issue featured us first once again in their Travel & Workshops section using this image:

In March of 2010, the blog A Nomad's Lot had two entries mentioning us, both written by Antonia Anderson — Five Ways to Earn a Living through Photography (don't give up your day job!) and Relationships for Working Nomads.

Also in March, writer Kasey Hargan featured Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures in an article called Photography Workshops or Tech Schools: Great Alternatives to the University Scene in the online journal Suite101.com.

In their February 2010 issue, Apogee Photo, an online magazine, reprinted (with prior permission) our blog article on © is for Copyright.

Outdoor Photographer featured us at the head of the Workshop section in their February 2010 print issue. They used the image below.  They also featured us in the October 2008 and July 2009 print issues.

In the October 2009 issue of Shutterbug, industry expert Maria Piscopo wrote an article called Social Media — A New Sales Strategy in which she quoted us.  She had called and written to interview us, but we were on the road at one of our workshops.  By the time we were able to respond, it was so late, so we were surprised and happy to find she included us.  In fact, we found out about it through one of the Social Media — Facebook!  The article is also online.

Robert Sheppard wrote an article in the April 21, 2009 online edition of Outdoor Photographer titled Get the Most from a Workshop: What to look for and what to expect from a photo workshop.  He included us in his list of workshops, although he listed us as The Barefoot Contessa instead of Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures!

Crain's Chicago Business interviewed one of our Chicagoland alumnae for their October 5, 2010 article on Snapping Safaris.  We received very good publicity in the article that was also published in their print edition. Topsail-Island.Info did an article on us on July 10, 2008, complete with photos and slide show!

In 2008, Travel + Leisure listed us as one of ten photo workshops in their online article Photography 101: Photo Expeditions and Tours.

All of these are wonderful, but our best accolades come from our alumni!
