Information for Palouse, Echoes of Tuscany Photo Workshop

September 11-15, 2017, MONday noon through FRIday at 2:00

Please note our departure from the usual Sunday-through-Thursday schedule. Because
of the timing of our Oregon workshop, we have adjusted the days of the week.

Cost:   $1,280 w/ discounts available. See also Two-fer pricing when combined with Along the Oregon Coast.

PayPal Methods
Payments:
We accept cash and credit card payments through PayPal. Please e-mail a copy of your completed Application pages, so we can coordinate it with your payment/acceptance.

Trip Insurance:
We highly recommend trip insurance that includes travel health insurance, especially for overseas trips. You don't want to be cut off if you get sick before or during a trip and find that you have no recource or support. Click here for a link to a page we have written specifically on travel insurance.

You will want to make sure that the company you select is a BBB Accreduted business with an A+ rating. Links for this are here.

Our travel agent, Sharon Erickson, is savvy and finds the best rates for you depending upon your needs. When you contact her, please mention Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures.

Accommodations: (Links require pop-up windows.)

We are once again staying at the convenient, smoke-free

Holiday Inn Express & Suites Pullman
     1190 SE Bishop Boulevard
     Pullman, WA  99163
     509-334-4437

They have always given us a very attractive rate (see below), and this year is no exception with the same rates as 2016. Rooms are released to the public after August 26, at which time rooms are subject to availability and pricing at the time of booking. In order to take advantage of the rates below, you will need to contact the inn directly at the above number and be sure to let them know that you are with Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures and use the code BCP. You may extend your stay at either end of our workshop.

Note that rooms in a university town fill up very quickly, so book as soon as you can. You won't actually pay until later.

IMPORTANT:
In cases such as this workshop location, the room rate actually includes our daily imaging room. Normally, that room incurs a hefty fee. So unless you are local, please join the rest of your fellow participants. Otherwise, expect to pay a surcharge of up to $75. This obviously will cost a lot more than a few dollars saved with Expedia or other booking sites. Besides, it is more fun and more practical for carpooling if we all stay in the same location.

If you dawdle and get shut out of the Holiday Inn Express & Suites, check out other possibilities through TripAdvisor.com.

Airport: The nearest major Airport is Spokane International Airport (GEG), a bit over 80 miles and about 1-1/2 hours to the north of our hotel.

Travel Agent:
Navigating the maze of overseas flights can be daunting, totally frustrating, and time consuming as we all search for the best fare.  We have two travel agents that we can highly recommend — Cheryl Darwell or her associate Sharon Erickson at Cheryl-CruisePlanners.com in West End, NC. They are both also American Express agents. They are both well traveled and are very savvy in so much more than just cruises. They have access to resources unavailable to us mere mortals and can often find fares that are below the ones on the Internet.

With domestic fares, she does need to charge a fee, but for many, it is well worth it. Call Paula at 978-372-0226 on the east coast or e-mail her.  It is not our custom to recommend outside travel resources, so this lets you know how highly we regard Paula.

So, particularly for help with international air, train, and travel-related questions, call Cheryl or Sharon at at 877-693-4535 (East Coast) or e-mail them as noted above.

Please note that in cases where we negotiate special rates with our hotels, you must either book through our travel agent, or use our links and make your reservations yourself. This information is noted for each workshop under Accommodations above.

Flying with Photo Equipment
It is always good to check with your airline before traveling to make sure you are complying with their current rules. Alas, TSA no longer has guidelines and passes consumers along to their airline of choice. Be prepared to do some deep digging.

We NEVER check our camera gear; nor do we ever check our laptops. The airlines will not cover these, and even if they did, you would be up a creek without those items. Common sense dictates that you allow plenty of extra time should TSA ask you to empty your bag and sift through each item one by one.

You may also want to select your airline based on its willingness to work with photographers...

Remember, you may have to check your bag plane-side before boarding smaller aircraft. We have done this numerous times over the decades without any problems ... knock on wood!

If you are a member of a photo association, carry your membership card. It may help you, but that is not a guarantee.

Finally, too many people bring too much gear. The less you worry about your gear, the more you will see what is around you.

Rental Cars:
Because we stop in locations where the roads and streets may be narrow and parking minimal, we encourage, in fact insist on, car sharing. It is also friendlier to our environment.

If you are interested in sharing a rental car with others, let us know. We'll pool those who respond and get you in touch with one another to make your own plans.

We can't guarantee that there will be takers, so we also recommend that you rent a car, as you can always cancel later. That way, you won't find your car of choice no longer available.
