Private Printing Workshops

Geranium

For those who are looking for dedicated instruction in digital printing, Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures offers two levels of private digital printing workshops in Raleigh, North Carolina. These are conducted by Barefoot Contessa’s digital printing guru, John Pagliuca, who has been creating digital fine art prints since 2000 and whose work has been widely exhibited and collected.

In these workshops, you will learn how to control the digital printing process and make beautiful prints without having to do endless, expensive test prints. You will also learn techniques to strengthen and enhance your creative vision.

The Introductory Workshop will teach you how to set up your monitor and optimize images for printing, how to accurately preview how your images will look when they are printed, and how to gain more control of the digital printing process. You will learn about monitor calibration, printer profiles and driver settings, Soft Proofing with Adobe Photoshop, and preparing your images to print with maximum clarity and impact.

The Introductory Workshop is three hours long and costs $225.

The Advanced Workshop concentrates on advanced digital printing techniques for both color and black and white. You will learn: how to set up and effectively use a color-managed workflow; techniques to enhance color and contrast; image sharpening for printing; the use of different color spaces; how to fit the color gamut of digital files to the gamut of a digital printer; how to create duo-tone and quad-tone black and white prints; how to scale your images properly for large print sizes; and how to save time and effort by using Adobe Photoshop Actions. Special attention is given to technical and artistic considerations in image preparation and fine-art printing for, including printer, inkset, and paper choices.

The Advanced Workshop is six hours long with a 45-minute break midway through the course, and costs $450.

In both workshops you will be working with an Epson Professional wide-format printer and Epson K3 inkset to produce a finished print.

Schedule a workshop with one other person and receive 10% discount on your combined tuitions. To see more of John’s work, go to John Pagliuca Productions.
