You will want to make sure that the company you select is a BBB Accreduted business with an A+ rating. Links for this are here.

Taormina is a very popular destination, and when you get there, you'll see why.

We are at the quiet end of this charming Medieval city. This is why we highly recommend that you make your room reservations ASAP.

We have negotiated rates where we have always stayed at the lovely

      Hotel Taodomus
      Corso Umberto I, 224
      98039 Taormina, ITALY

When making reservations, e-mail Maria at info@taodomus.it and be sure to mention Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures.

They accept reservations by e-mail, but sometimes there are e-mail problems when they try to send to the US.  If you have problems, let us know, and we'll help you.

There are only ten rooms here, so if you miss out, there are other options...

Just a few doors away is:

Hotel del Corso (with 15 room in the main hotel and 7 in the annex)
      Corso Umberto I, 238
      98039 Taormina, ITALY

IMPORTANT:
In cases such as this workshop location, the room rate actually includes our daily imaging room. Normally, that room incurs a hefty fee. So unless you are local, please join the rest of your fellow participants. Otherwise, expect to pay a surcharge of up to $75. This obviously will cost a lot more than a few dollars saved with Expedia or other booking sites. Besides, it is more fun and more practical for carpooling if we all stay in the same location.

If you miss out on any of the above, try TripAdvisor for other choices. Take advantage of the long weekend to return to some of your favorite workshop locations or explore others.

Airport: The nearest major Airport is Fontanarossa (CTA) in Catania, about 3/4 hour down the coast from Taormina. CTA has regular flights from/to most major European cities. We recommend not booking through your regular airline, as there are much cheaper flights from within Europe. Check with your travel agent or ours (see below). There is train service from CTA to the station right below Taormina. Easy as the proverbial pie!

Travel Agent:
Navigating the maze of overseas flights can be daunting, totally frustrating, and time-consuming as we all search for the best fare. We have two travel agents that we can highly recommend —Sharon Erickson at www.Cheryl-CruisePlanners.com in West End, NC. She is an American Express Travel Representative, is well traveled, and is very savvy in so much more than just cruises. She has access to resources unavailable to us mere mortals and can often find fares that are below the ones on the Internet.

With domestic fares, she does need to charge a fee, usually around $35, but for many, it is well worth it. Call Sharon at at 877-693-4535 (East Coast) or e-mail her as noted above.

Please note that in cases where we negotiate special rates with our hotels, you must either book through our travel agent, or use our links and make your reservations yourself. This information is noted for each workshop under Accommodations above.

It is always good to check with your airline before traveling to make sure you are complying with their current rules. Alas, TSA no longer has guidelines and passes consumers along to their airline of choice. Be prepared to do some deep digging.

We NEVER check our camera gear; nor do we ever check our laptops. The airlines will not cover these, and even if they did, you would be up a creek without those items. Common sense dictates that you allow plenty of extra time should TSA ask you to empty your bag and sift through each item one by one.

You may also want to select your airline based on its willingness to work with photographers...

Remember, you may have to check your bag plane-side before boarding smaller aircraft. We have done this numerous times over the decades without any problems ... knock on wood!

If you are a member of a photo association, carry your membership card. It may help you, but that is not a guarantee.

Finally, too many people bring too much gear. The less you worry about your gear, the more you will see what is around you.

Rental Cars:
Since we will only need a car for some of our visit, we will rent transportation and share the cost for those days when we venture beyond Taormina.
