Information for Travel Photography Workshops:
Venice in the Fall

November 11-17, 2018, Sunday morning at breakfast through Saturday dinner

Cost:  $1,800 w/ discounts available

PayPal Methods
Payments:
We accept cash and credit card payments through PayPal. Please e-mail a copy of your completed Application pages, so we can coordinate it with your payment/acceptance.

Trip Insurance:
We highly recommend trip insurance that includes travel health insurance, especially for overseas trips. You don't want to be cut off if you get sick before or during a trip and find that you have no recources or support. Click here for a link to a page we have written specifically on travel insurance.

You will want to make sure that the company you select is a BBB Accreduted business with an A+ rating. Links for this are here.

Our travel agent, Sharon Erickson, is savvy and finds the best rates for you depending upon your needs. When you contact her, please mention Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures.

We will be based at the beautiful and very convenient

      Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo
      2063 S.Croce
      30135 Venezia
      39 041 524-4797

We have negotiated a very attractive rate for double standard rooms of 120 euros. This includes:
  • Taxes and continental breakfast.
  • Be sure to take out trip insurance.
In order to get these rates, you will need to contact Sharon Erickson. See links above under Trip Insurance and below under "Travel Agent." As soon as you sign up and make your deposit, we will let Sharon know that you qualify for this special rate.

IMPORTANT:
In cases such as this workshop location, the room rate actually includes our daily imaging room. Normally, that room incurs a hefty fee. So unless you are local, please join the rest of your fellow participants. Otherwise, expect to pay a surcharge of up to $75. This obviously will cost a lot more than a few dollars saved with Expedia or other booking sites. Besides, it is more fun and more practical for meeting up for our various shoots if we all stay in the same location. Rooms can go quickly, so best to not wait too long before signing up. Our special room rates are for participants only. Once we receive your application and monies due at the time of sign-up, we will let our hotel know you are, indeed, with us, so that your discounted rate, when there is one, is applied.

If you miss out on any of the above, try TripAdvisor for other choices. Take advantage of the long weekend to return to some of your favorite workshop locations or explore others.

Airport:
The nearest major Airport is Marco Polo (VCE, less than 4-1/2 miles away).

Travel Agent:
Navigating the maze of domestic or overseas flights can be daunting, totally frustrating, and time-consuming as we all search for the best fare. We have a travel agent that we can highly recommend —Sharon Erickson at www.Cheryl-CruisePlanners.com in West End, NC. She is an American Express Travel Representative, is well traveled, and is very savvy in so much more than just cruises. She has access to resources unavailable to us mere mortals and can often find fares that are below the ones on the Internet.

With domestic fares, she does need to charge a fee, usually around $35, but for many, it is well worth it. We have found we still save money, and tons of time! Call Sharon at at 877-693-4535 (East Coast) or e-mail her as noted above. Please tell her we sent you (no, we do not get any perks from this).

Please note that in cases where we negotiate special rates with our hotels, you must either book through our travel agent, or use our links and make your reservations yourself. This information is noted for each workshop under Accommodations above.

Flying with Photo Equipment
It is always good to check with your airline before traveling to make sure you are complying with their current rules. Alas, TSA no longer has guidelines and passes consumers along to their airline of choice. Be prepared to do some deep digging.

We NEVER check our camera gear; nor do we ever check our laptops. The airlines will not cover these, and even if they did, you would be up a creek without those items. Common sense dictates that you allow plenty of extra time should TSA ask you to empty your bag and sift through each item one by one.

You may also want to select your airline based on its willingness to work with photographers...

Remember, you may have to check your bag plane-side before boarding smaller aircraft. We have done this numerous times over the decades without any problems ... knock on wood!

If you are a member of a photo association, carry your membership card. It may help you, but that is not a guarantee.

Finally, too many people bring too much gear. The less you worry about your gear, the more you will see what is around you.

Rental Cars:
It is rare in Europe that we rent cars. We love to visit cities that are walkable, and Venezia certainly fits into that category.

So bring your warm, walking shoes, and enjoy water taxis, vaporettos, and gondolas when you want a break from walking.
