I’ve put a lot of effort in getting the word out on what could be called thieves over at Pilfered Magazine. Suffice it to say, that we are succeeding. We weren’t the first to publish it, but we were among the first to get the word out.
Now, it’s time for some images, a few here and there. As some of you know, we are in Belize for our first workshop of the season. As any self-employed person knows, one has little time for oneself when one is home, so we decided to take a couple of extra days before heading down to Punta Gorda in Toledo in the South.
After a delay getting out of RDU, we got bumped up to First Class for the Miami/Belize City leg of the trip. Everything went off without a hitch, and our bags arrived safely, a good thing, since some of our workshop materials had to be checked, not to mention our tripods!
After customs, we went around the corner to Tropic Air and were able to board an earlier flight over to Caye Caulker, a wonderfully funky little island that is a delightful step back in time. Bare feet, shorts, sarongs, are all the norm. I’m happy!
This was one of the first islands we flew over on our little puddle hopper that held all of 12 people, one of whom sat in the co-pilot’s seat.
The airport was magnificent and so like the old ones in the Caribbean that I used to see all the time. Note the magenta luggage carrier out front!
Of course, after walking about a bit, we had to have the obligatory rum punch, made with excellent, local, Belizian rum. Note the Pelican heading over to a fish shack in the background.
There are tons of fishermen on the island, each with his own little processing shack. This one was right next door to where we were enjoying our rums. Nothing like fresh fish! The Pelicans agree!
More tomorrow…
