One Shot, Ida

This blog presents a challenge. The last time we put one up, we showed a part of a hull in Belize. Dave Robertson, one of our alumni, was the first to guess what it was. Congratulations, Dave! You were spot on.

Yesterday, we spent time along the coast. We had a great time in and around the pier, watching the light change, capturing it various nuances. Early-morning walkers and joggers would pass by, some stopping to see what everyone was photographing.

While people shot many of the same things, they all did it from a different perspective. I can’t wait to show some in a Same Place, Different View.

Later, after imaging, we headed down the coast for another session.

Arnie came up to me and said he found something quite bizarre that he wanted to show me. Arnie is prone to kidding, so I figured he was pulling my leg.

Well, as you can see, he wasn’t. Visions of sci-fi movies came to mind as I photographed this thing. This was the One Shot I did from this angle, turning it into a design, rather than a thing.

When we are on the Outer Banks, there are always things to discover. It might be patterns in the sand, a wonderful seashell or feather, a gorgeous sky with wispy clouds, fence lines and shadows, or something strange such as this thing.

Who will be the first to guess what this is?

We always enjoy comments.

  1. Looks like barnacles on a partially submerged piece of coral, but there is no coral on the Outer Banks!!

    1. Sherrie,

Love and guess and equally love the on-target analysis. Tomorrow will be the unveiling, as no, no go!

      Take care,

    1. Melissa,

Yours, like the others, is a very interesting guess, but no, alas, it is not the right answer.

      Thanks for trying, though!

    1. Deb,

We haven’t had a guess quite like yours, and I like the vision it conjures up, but again, no to this, too.

      Thanks for trying.

    1. Alisa,

Thanks for guessing, but someone earlier had guessed that. No, I’m afraid, to your very reasonable guess.

  2. Two guesses. edge of a jelly fish? part of a star fish? I know neither of these is correct. Hope you tell us soon. At least those of us with guesses are dying to know.

    1. Interesting guesses, John, but no, and no again. I’m waiting for a couple of more guesses to come in, probably after the last of these One Shots from the Outer Banks. Then, we’ll reveal all. It will surprise everyone, I think!

  3. It looks to me like the image has been rotated about 90 degrees from its natural alignment and appears to be a lacquered table with shell ornamentation along its edge. Of course, it could also be a Yeti with the heartbreak of psoriasis. They look alike.

  4. OK, OK! Making us guess! I would say it is the tentacle of a squid or octopus. Don’t see them often on the beach, but do see them occasionally when we visit the beach. Love Arnie and his bizarreness (is that a word). LOL.

    1. John,

Interesting guess, and one I was tempted to note before I got closer, but no, I am afraid! And you know Arnie and his deliciously bizarre sense of humor!

      Take care,

      TBC
