Many of you know I grew up sailing this coast on my dad’s classic wooden yawl, a Concordia, for those who really know wooden boats.

We come down the Damarisacotta River, and I get a funny feeling. This is a good feeling, a welling up inside. The kind that could produce tears, but in this case. pure joy.

As always, Arnie and I go out scouting before the workshop begins. We try a different back road, go at a different time of day to see if what didn’t work as an afternoon shot might work in the morning. We have to check in with Waino, one of our lobstering friends, and Stevie, the harbormaster.

We even get to do some of our own photography during this time before a workshop starts.

There are Scout and Shoot days available, and two of our participants decided to do it. As one said laughingly, “It turned my life around [at least his photographic one].”

The four of us had a great time. Arnie and I worked with them, in Lightroom and in the field. They got some great shots and were quite pleased with the results. Both came back grinning from ear to ear.

I decided to find a breeze where the flies wouldn’t be so bothersome. (They seem to like seaweed, and it was low tide.) After photographing one tide pool, I skirted up around the ledges and rocks and found another tide pool with some dramatic rocks to set it off. The photograph at the top was my one-shot for that particular view. It was the first photograph I made there.

Then, I did several more, including these two…© 2011 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. Same place, for sure, but definitely a different rendition of the scene.

So, this brings with it a reminder that the next time you go out, find your own same place – different view.

We always love to get comments.

  1. Nice shots. Was this in the morning… around Pemaquid way? I am heading there early September. Maine is my very best place to photograph—what Beauty!

    1. No, that was actually in the late afternoon in Midcoast Maine, down the same peninsula as Pemaquid Point. Tonight, we were out at the lighthouse in delicious fog. What fun!

Thanks for writing, and take care,

    1. Indeed, Lulu, it is a wonderful place to photograph. I’ve been doing it since the 50s.

We are independent – Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures at http://www.BCphotoadventures.com. Take a look at our website and at our student galleries. We are very proud of the work they do in our workshops and afterwards.

      Thanks for writing,
