Scottish Highlands 2012, Day 11

Day 11 – From the Isle of Skye to Fort Augustus

We took a lovely loop around the shore not too far from our hotel. Over hills, past numerous flocks of sheep, past others that had escaped into the road (Sheep RULE!), we drove. Again, a one-track lane. Our first extensive location was down along a cove that overlooked the Black Cullins. A boat attracted everyone’s attention, so we skirted seaweed and kelp and made our way across the large, pebble beach. Some of us looked the other way, and I included a typical white house backed up into the steep, rocky hillside.© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. It was a bit of a drive to our next hotel at the head of Loch Ness, and we wanted to make it in time for dinner. At our next stop along the way, we were beset by midges (MID-gies). We often call them No-see-ums. Arnie and I commented on how much of a difference one week makes. There were none a week ago. Still, people got shots, and we continued on our way until we came to a couple of overviews of lochs.

One was watched over by a field of curious cairns. We have not had a chance to look up how they have come to be there, but they all had different personalities and were an interesting foreground.© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. The other required clambering up a steep hill to get above the tree line to get a long view back, the clouds drifting in and out.© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved.
