Then, there were critiques, and we were very impressed with their first day’s work.

Our participants, as is often the case, have set a high bar for the rest of the week.

Then, there is lunch, made lovingly by Françoise. We had our usual yummy salad, and for dessert, we were presented with beautiful apricot tarts garnished with a sprig of lavender. After all, we are in lavender country, but it isn’t quite ready to be photographed. Probably Friday.

We headed up to another hill town, making a couple of stops along the way to photograph vineyards. Eventually, we got to our main location, and people scattered. In this particular town, there is no way one is going to find the others, so Arnie and I got to do a few photos.

I looked for textures and light.

The first came in the form of rooftops heading in all directions.© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. This wall was fascinating to me with its ancient bottom and “modern” top, all set off by a great reflection.© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. We met early evening for supper and talked about the photos we had made. Everyone was in good spirits, and we dawdled over wine and a light supper outside on a terrace where we had eaten last year. I looked out around the corner to see what the sky was doing, and there was definitely a feeling of rain. We paid our bills and once again scattered with rain jackets on and tripods tucked under arms. Arnie and I have our little Leica table-top tripods, so we didn’t have to carry as much.

It started to rain, and the wind really picked up. I found several photos I liked, including this one.© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. Next: Since most of the villages around here are atop a hill, another hilltop town will undoubtedly be on our itinerary tomorrow, but each has its own personality …
