Day 02 – Early Morning along the River. Afternoon in the Valley, and Night Skies
As always, the mornings are beautiful in Zion National Park. We get there during Astronomical or Nautical Twilight, and then Civil makes way to light streaming across the scene.
Such was this case this particular morning. We returned to one of the classic, iconic images from Zion. As you will see, we saw it wearing different clothing.
The valley is long, with the Virgin River running through it, and still carving it out, and the light at both ends of the day can be stunning.
At first, the sun tipped the jagged peaks, then slipped quietly down the mountain side. Finally, it bathed the Cottonwoods along the river.
And speaking of the river, with that light, Arnie and I knew what it would do to the reflections in the water.
We returned to our favorite breakfast place for yet another scrumptuous meal, some good conversation, and a lot of laughs. During imaging, our participants learned more about post-processing after they had made their selects for the daily critiques.
It was time to head back out, as we wanted to catch the light in the valley before it disappeared behind the mountains. I had a shot in mind from the last visit, but the weather had not cooperated for that day. This image was light dependent, so that the rocks and grasses were lit up in the foreground. The weather cooperated, and I was pleased. I told one of our participants who had wanted to shoot in the same location to watch the shadows, as they would come quickly and gallop across the meadow.
Everyone was interested in night skies. Some had seen the ones from our last visit. While the moon was still pretty full, it was rising late enough to not impact our skies. The participants were quite pleased with the results.
Next: First Light and on to Bryce Canyon
