First Day of Workshop
It is great fun to welcome back alumni. In this workshop, nine out of the 12 are alumni, and some knew each other from other workshops. We reviewed our normal setup and gave our group principles and reminders to think about as they prepared to head out for the first shoot.
We had hoped for some late-afternoon light for our first location, and we had it, but in the sky, not on the canyon walls. We improvised and made our own light,. First, however, we concentrated on the sky as the rays of sun broke through the clouds.
Participants explored the area, asking questions, seeking answers to challenges they had. People helped one another when Arnie and I were working with others.
Never one to stand where others, so, I found a higher vantage point. Normally, I would have been at the cliff-edge, but it had been raining, and I figured it was prudent to save that for another day. My vantage point, however, worked, as it allowed me to peer into the canyon while taking in the amazing clouds.
That is always a lesson. Don’t worry about you cannot do in photography for this or that. Concentrate on what you can do. Arnie always says, “Take a negative, and turn it into a positive.”
Arnie and I were working more intensively with our group, so we were lucky to grab a shot or two.
The next morning would be the start of our first full day, and we made arrangements to meet early before we headed off to dinner. Dinner? Oh no! Restaurants in Chinle closed early on the weekends, but fortunately, everyone had snacks and granola bars, so they were fine.
We always love to get comments.
