In Part 01 in this series, we talk about the Magic of Light and Mystery of Shadow. If you did not catch it, go to http://goo.gl/YXj5vJ

We continue with more examples.

Light is ephemeral. Dawdle, fiddle with your camera settings, and you will lose the moment.

In this one, Arnie has captured a magic glow that came very briefly to the canyon wall and lit up part of the cave behind the ancient Anasazi ruins. A minute or so later, it was gone, so it shows how important it is to watch the light and not miss the magic within.

While essentially a monochromatic palette, it is full of drama.

Sometimes, it is the way that light catches clouds and colors. Here, on the Outer Banks, the light was spectacular, accenting the cloud rhythms and echoing them in the water. Again, a mere minute or so later, and the magic was gone.© 2013 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. A few years ago on the Outer Banks, we came across some particularly wonderful tidal pools, even rivers. The light “had gone,” at least to the unseasoned eye, but our participants were out with their tripods, taking their cues from Arnie and me, and we were all trying to capture as much as we could in the brief minutes allotted to us. Arnie made this rich, elegantly simple image.© 2012 Arnold Zann. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. There is a wonderful old trading post in the Navajo Nation. Full of history, it is probably one of the best places to view Indian rugs and baskets. But after droolng over the beautiful fare in the trading post, we were back outside as the light got interesting in some of the out buildings.

I have always had a thing for things with history. They have lead us to the present, albeit sometimes in a circuitous manner. This particular day, the light bouncing in from outside turned this old wagon into a piece of art. And, it was all about the light, as we so often say in our workshops.

If I had done this as an HDR image, it would have had the total blahs. As it is, it stands as an elegant reminder of days gone by.© 2013 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved.
