Isle of Skye, Day 04

Fourth Day of the Workshop

Critiques went well. Everyone selected an image from the previous two days, one for full critique, the second for thumbs-up/thumbs-down and a brief comment or two. There were some really wonderful photographs, and everyone was quite pleased with their successes.

Today was about chasing the light. We started out having lunch at a little, natural food place in Portree with yummy soups, sandwiches, and full meals. Because we were 13 in numbers, we split up into two tables, adjoining, so we could chat back and forth.

On we headed to one of the signature locations on the Isle of Skye, the Old Man of Storr, spires that jut up out of the steep mountainside. There is a waterfall along the way that always produces wonderful images. With all the rains, it was muddy along the edge. Add to that the fact that there are a lot of free-range cattle, and well, you can just imagine! If one was careful, and hop, skipped, jumped, and lept, one could stay clean … more or less.

Sitting by the stream after doing some long shots, I helped some of our participants home in on their vision. It was fun and companionable.

Later, I walked up to the top and walked along the high moors, cattle (DAY-rreee cews) in front of the Old Man of Storr.

Continuing along the one-lane road, peppered with lay-bys, we chased the light, no particular destination in mind, although Arnie and I have many marked on our Garmins, and it turned out those stops worked.

Sheep dotted cliffside patches of green, the light drifted in and out, and although we returned to the hotel quite late, people loved the day.

There was no question about sleeping well, but we decided we need to take a picnic supper along with us the next day. Arnie and I will not share in the single malts or wine, being the resident drivers, but others can do so.
