Or, Same Workshop, Different View
Alas, when WordPress went to a new version, we lost our rating widgets, so please leave a quick comment at the end of the blog so that we know you enjoyed the images we shared.
It’s that time of year again when Arnie and I pick our favorite image from each workshop, as noted in the mosaic below that also contains the images that we will share in Part 2. This might be called Same Workshop, Different View rather than the usual Same Place, Different View!
For those who follow Arnie and me on Facebook and elsewhere, you may recognize many of these images, others, probably not.
We started off the year in New Orleans, The BIG Easy, NOLA, city of fabulous music, food, and photo ops. I found another way to photograph Doreen, a superb, internationally-known musician who loves sharing her music and playing with a passion on the streets of NOLA. As we were doing final scouting, we came upon an exuberant wedding parade. We were drawn in, literally and figuratively, and Arnie had a great time photographing their leader.
Eight days later after returning home from New Orleans, we were winging our way across the pond to Venice for Carnevale in Venice. The city, of course, is like no other. Combining it with Carnevale and all the colors it offers is nothing short of a special treat. Arnie has always enjoyed photographing people, and the characters present during Carnevale added an extra dimension for him. I loved photographing the people, too, but ultimately, this still-life of a colorful boat tied up along a quiet side canal took my vote.
Let’s face it, our schedule is sometimes pretty crazy. Some might say it is always crazy, but it has been that way our whole careers. A week after we returned from Venice, towards the end of February, we were on another plane to Miami to return to Cuba with our fourth group.
Cuba is certainly nothing without her people, a warm, welcoming group who are pragmatic and don’t allow their current circumstances spoil their love of family, friends, and life in general. On a very quiet side street in La Habana, I saw this woman walking with her son. The interaction between them and their shadows caught my attention. In Trinidad, Arnie found this wonderfully graphic image of a woman against a typically colorful background. Her stance says so much.
Later in March, we drove five hours south for Savannah and Her Lowcountry. There is an old-world elegance to this city. Arnie interpreted the famous cemetery in this photograph, concentrating on the hand of one of the many monuments. I loved the graphics and shadows in the old fort down the river from the city.
So, it is fun to review your year in photography, the adventures you experienced, the celebrations you attended, the workshops you took.
Next: Part 2 of 4.

Hey you two,
Favorites are the boat and the statue. Shot with clear intention and great execution. Thanks for your continued inspiration and Happy New Year! J
Thanks, Joyce.
It really is fun to review the year and the thoughts that and concepts that went into the various photographs.
Thanks for commenting, and …
Take care,
TBC
Love the statue with the bokeh! smooch*
As you know, Andy, we love to show subjects in a different light. Arnie chose a really shallow depth of field for this one.
So glad you love it!
Hugs,
TBC
I never tire looking at the images you and Arnie make. Your styles are so different and I love that about you guys! It is hard to pick a favorite but I do love the ones from Cuba but maybe that’s my anticipation of actually being there very soon.
Sherry,
Thanks for writing, and thank you for the compliment! You will make your own stunning images in Cuba. You connect so well with people that you will have a blast!
Can’t wait!

Beautiful images! I especially love the stories that accompany each one. Thanks for the inspirations.
Bonnie,
With any artist, there is always a story behind the piece. I’m so glad that you enjoyed “the rest of the story,” as Paul Harvey used to say. Thank you!
Take care,
TBC
Love the images you chose. i could definitely pick out which images were yours and which were Arnies. Can’t wait for the next series.
Becky,
We each do have our own styles, and we seek our own visions, for sure. We try to practice what we preach and hopefully, we succeed. Thanks for your comments!
Take care,

Gosh it’s hard to pick a favorite here…I think I like the Big Easy two the best! I can feel the music in both of the images; I think that is why I am drawn to those two specifically. Beautiful as always.
Eve,
There is something about the music in NOLA that is intoxicating and compelling. So glad you can feel the vibes! And thanks for writing!
Take care, and best to Pete, too,
TBC
