There is a field of poppies below us, and we have our participants shoot into the light.

They get down on the ground, shoot up at flowers, across them, through them, et cetera. They have fun.

In the afternoon, we take them to an old abandoned house we love to photograph. There are also wonderful wheat fields, round bales, patchwork patterns, a castle on a craggy hilltop, and all manner of things to photograph.

They learn how to wait for the light, to scout for where they want to be when the light happens, and in short, to be patient. After all, it’s … all about the light.

They are ready to go. It has been a long day.

Then, the magic happens. They are surprised and eager to photograph. Arnie and I make a few shots of our own. This is one I did, and I love the layers and drama of the scene.© 2011 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. Now, they understand why we wait. Now, they understand why we get there before the light happened. Now, they have some great images to take home.

We beat a hasty retreat. Everyone is hungry, and Arnie and I want to get over the high hills and switchbacks before it gets dark.

We get back to town after restaurants are really closed. Besides, it is Tuesday, and many establishments are closed for their day off.

I scoot up a hill and talk to the people at a restaurant we like. Ten people? Yes, they can accommodate ten people. It was worth it for them to stay open, and we are very grateful.

We go to bed content, and with satisfied stomachs.
