Arches Canyonlands 2012, Day 04

Day 04- A Favorite Overlook and Another Night Sky

Everyone thinks that this is the Grand Canyon, and it isn’t.  Every year, I do a panorama here.  The light changes, the sky has its own personality. The scene is never the same, and I love it here. The Ravens soar below, and I quork to them. Sometimes they change course, sometimes not. It is a special place.

This year, for the first time, the sky does not feature in my pano. It seems to argue with the scene, so I leave it out.© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. As in the previous morning, the light changes rapidly, and Arnie and I put our group through their paces, as they chase the light. In and out, the sun alternately peeks out and hides. A lone tree stands starkly against an ominous sky.© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. Just when we think the light is gone, the sun breaks through again, and I scramble to get another shot of my favorite scene, this time adding a sliver of sky.© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. We have a lot of imaging to do, so we head back. The critique session is good, and Arnie and I enjoy watching our participants grow in their vision and comments.

Back into Arches we head for our last afternoon/evening shoot. There are various versions of windows and arches, and there are plenty of shapes to celebrate.

Arnie and I ask if anyone is interested in doing a night sky. People are tired. These are long hours. Maybe not. But when the stars begin to appear, some change their minds. It is a glorious evening, and a stunning way to end our last night.© 2012 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures.
