Same Place – Different View
For this Same Place – Different View, we draw from our 2014 Colorado’s Fall Colors participants’ work. We love this area, as there is so much variety, and we will return yet again next year.
As those of you know who have come to our workshops, we really want our participants to seek their own vision. The scene may be the same, but it is important to interpret it in your own way, not produce what we disparagingly call, “Just another pretty postcard.”
One of our locations is above 11,000 feet. It is magnificent up there, and as the light fades, some magical things can happen.
Tim chose a bold square for his photograph, using the pointed firs to set his scene off and the sunlit areas to draw your eye into the valley.
Mark preferred the soft colors that came out after the sun disappeared and the sky turned darker and the clouds purple.
For our next pair, we down on the flats where the morning mists can produce some wonderful effects.
Carl took in a good portion of the scene, creating depth with the layers of mists fading off to a suggestion of mountains beyond.
Jack, converted his image to black and white and gave it a more intimate feel by homing in on the tree.
In this last duo, we were out on one of the many mountain dirt roads at a spot that always affords lots of photographic fodder. The light was amazing that morning.
Michelle wanted a winding road in at least one of her images and picked this as the perfect spot, an errant white wisp of cloud adding interest to the sky.
Arlene, on the other hand, picked a different moment when the light blazed in on the mountain, an inky, dark sky setting it off.
Three different scenes with different takes on each of them. Check out more of these participants’ work.
So, the next time you head out with a friend or friends to photograph, make sure you make your own Same Place — Different View.
Next time: To be determined!
