Venice 2015, 002

Bellisimo! Such is Venezia. We had a wonderful day, our first full one this trip.

We headed off in the opposite direction from yesterday, starting on the tourist main route to head over to San Marcos, but making numerous detours on the way. It is these back streets that we love, away from most of the madding crowd.

The colors and textures that one finds are beautiful. Most photographers I know prefer the worn and old to new and pristine. This wall worked for me with its soft palette of colors.© 2015 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. “I’m headed in here,” I called to Arnie, “I’ll meet you at the bridge.”

The light in one of the many alleys caught my eye. This lone chair was my prize. I loved its simplicity, waiting patiently for someone to come along and rest for a bit.© 2015 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. As we continued to walk, we started to see couples in full costume. The rich green dress of this pair went beautifully with the soft, ocher wall.© 2015 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. The couple above showed us how easy and accommodating these people are. Ask them to stop so you can make a photograph, and they are most accommodating. People look for votes, and if there are photographs, that helps them.

We met this lady, and I knew instantly what backdrop I wanted for her. We walked across

San Marcos square so I could place her. “Tip your head this way,” I indicated, and she did.© 2015 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. “Grazie mille,” we always thank them.

Photographing from far away is not effective. For one, people will step right in front of you, even if you have set up the shot. I had fun with this person and her mask.© 2015 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. Riding in the gondolas is extremely expensive, up to 100 Euros per person, from what we saw, so check prices if you are interested. Some of the gondolas are particularly beautiful.

Suffice it to say that we would not be riding in the gondolas, so we took the water taxi for a mere seven Euros each. We will look to see if a week pass is available.

The water taxi or ferry was perfect. We got a good position, and I was able to get this shot of the iconic Ponte Rialto, so much more interesting for us at night! It was Arnie’s first view of this famous landmark.© 2015 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. From Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures. After a late dinner, consisting of Mozzarella di bufala, pomodoro e prosciutto crudo that we shared, followed by Tagliolini neri alla pescatora con pesto di basilico e mandorle for Arnie, and Petto de pollo dorato con contorno de stagiioni for me. Delizioso! The wine? A lovely 2010 Ferragu Valpolicelli Superiore from Verona where our friend Mattia Zaldini lives.

And for dessert? We shared the Panna cotta ai frutti di bosco! Heavenly!

After dinner, we meandered back to our hotel. Along the way, this scene caught my eye. Peaceful, restful, quiet…© 2015 Margo Taussig Pinkerton. All Rights Reserved. 1. Really enjoying this Margo. Brings back so many great memories of just wandering the back streets and alleys of Venice. Like you, I find the most interesting photographic opportunities as far away from the tourist mobs as possible.

    1. So glad you are enjoying it, Bill. And terrific that it is bringing back some wonderful memories! A lot of travel is enjoying the memories later.

      Take care,
