COVID SAFETY: Please read our COVID-19 Information and Prep page.August in Maine, where the Atlantic meets the coast, is delightful. With sunny and foggy days, you'll see the various moods of this craggy area that Margo and Arnie loved to photograph. "Mid-coast" Maine is an area known for its dramatic rocky coast, pounding surf, wonderful lighthouses, and charming fishing harbors and coves dotted with lobster boats. You'll hear the deep thrum of the diesel engines as the fishing boats head out to sea every morning.
And we mustn't forget the famous Maine fir trees, "Land of the pointed Firs," that add wonderful elements to the coastline. Margo will take you to areas where Winslow Homer, Andy Wyeth, and other artists have painted for centuries.
Check out Bob Krist (think NatGeo) and his Vimeo Maine: Blue Hour on the Midcoast (linked with Bob's permission).
The workshop is based right on Pemaquid Point within walking distance of one of Margo's favorite lighthouses and a great breakfast place. Bring along your spouse. significant other, or friend, always welcome at our workshops and who instantly become part of our group.
As many of our alumni know, the Barefoot Contessa grew up sailing this area, so knows it well and looks forward to introducing you to her special haunts. Here, you'll be able to celebrate your passion for photography, hone your seeing and imaging skills, and learn about the magic of light to make wonderful photographs.
And you will be doing it right in the heart of an area that has produced many of Margo's photographs that have been published in calendars, travel magazines, and coffee-table books. After the workshop, plan on taking an extra few days to explore this area on your own, return to places you have visited, and use your new-found knowledge to make more beautiful images. Please join Barefoot Contessa Photo Adventures and note that this workshop often sells out early.
And one never knows what the weather and night skies will bring. Mother Nature, after all, has a mind of her own. We may get some terrific opportunities. And for those who have not read it, check out "Blue Skies, Who Needs'em" on the BCPA blog.
When making your plans, it is critical that you plan on arriving for our first session on Sunday. Our newcomers should be ready to go at noon, while our seasoned alumni can arrive 30-60 minutes later, timing thata will be nailed down closer to the workshop.
I will stay over the night that the workshop ends, and for those who want to join me, we usually go out shooting and dine one last evening together.
Meanwhile, be sure to carefully read BCPA's FAQs, as well as the various links in the box above. They should hopefully answer almost any question you might have.
