With rolling hills that are actually ancient geological silt dunes, agricultural patterns of wheat, garbanzo beans, barley, and other crops, hay included, meandering and crisscrossing as far as the eye can see, old farm houses and barns, 50s-era towns, farm machinery and abandoned trucks surrounded by grasses, this is a photographer's feast ... and instead of the more common endless sea of green, we will be photographing a more subdued palette of chocolates, creams, golds, siennas, burnt umbers, and browns punctuated by yellows and yes, some greens. The palette is gorgeous ... subtle and soothing and magnificent.
While The Palouse covers an extensive region, we will be concentrating on the area around Pullman, home to Washington State University. From here, we can head off in different directions each day and take advantage of the various opportunities in this amazing part of the state.
You will be attracted to the different patterns of the fields that stretch beyond the horizon. Different areas seem to produce different patterns, so you will find plenty of variety. And with crop rotation, there are different patterns and colors each year.

Regardless of your level, you'll be able to celebrate your passion for photography, hone your seeing and imaging skills, and learn about the magic of light to make wonderful photographs. And don't forget our great and fun critique sessions that set us apart from many photography workshops!
When making your plans, it is critical that you plan on arriving for our first session on Sunday. Newcomers should be ready to go at noon, while seasoned alumni can wait an hour, to be confirmed closer to the workshop.
I am staying over the night that the workshop ends, and for those who want to join me, we usually go out shooting and dine one last evening together.
