Private Photography and Lightroom Classic Workshops | Year-round by Appointment
I always encourage people to join BCPA for a regularly-scheduled workshop, not only to save money but to take advantage of the camaraderie and input of fellow participants. That said, because of time constraints or personal needs, a private workshop is still the better bet for some people.Each private workshop is tailored to the wants and needs of the individual, making sure that each person goes home with the tools needed to continue to grow as a fine art photographer.
Private Photo Instruction
These workshops are a minimum of two days long. I do not advise three, as I give out so much information that it takes a while to assimilate it all.The fee depends upon the numbers of people in the workshop and the location. The Outer Banks, for example, is the least expensive, since it is in our own back yard. That said, the minimum fee per day is $1,500 for up to two people, or $3,000 for the minimum of two days. For alumni, the fee starts at $1,275/2,550. With that, you are learning from a very experienced and dedicated instructor, Margo, for a minimum of 8 hours per day! And you will go home with a creature sitting on each shoulder, spouting mantras you have heard during your time with me!
Who knows, you might join the increasing number of photographers who have won awards or been juried into exhibitions with images they have created in our workshops! Not only that, but many of our alumni have done the same with fine art photographs they have made after our workshops, using the new set of tools their fellow participants and I have given them to continue to grow as artists.
If you want a special, private workshop for more people, contact Margo to discuss the possibilities.
Private Lightroom Classic Instruction - in person or by recorded Zoom
Lightroom Classic (LRC) keeps improving, and with each upgrade, adds new tools and improves others. Many people want to get up to speed more quickly than they might be able to do on their own. Others are already familiar with LRC want to take advantage of all it has to offer. Some have switched from other programs because of the ever-increasing sophistication of this program.Whatever your reason for using Lightroom, it always helps to get a leg up, to learn the ins and outs of the digital asset management — also known as "DAM" — aspects of this program, as well as to discover different ways to accomplish various imaging tasks.
We try to run at least one regularly-scheduled LR workshop a year. Check the Calendar.
Sometimes, however, that schedule does not work for people, and in those cases, I run private workshops.
The fee for those is $1,500 for a full day and $800 for a half-day; for our alumni, $1,280 for a full day and $680 for a half-day. This may be organized into two-hour Zoom increments instead of a solid eight or four hours.
Topics covered may include, depending upon the needs of the student, but are not limited to:
- Suggested program preferences;
- The various revised and new modules and panels and what they do;
- The powerful organizational capabilities of Lightroom;
- Assorted tools and presets, including ©, file renaming, & Margo's Tweaks;
- Templates; and
- Working in programs with plug-ins such as Silver Efex Pro (for black-and-white conversions), AutoPanoPro (for panoramas), and Photoshop (for other tasks - Digimarc for those who sell their work) and occasional Content Aware Fill (but LRC with AI does an amazing job with their new Remove tool), Topaz Sharpen AI and Topaz DeNoise AI, among others.
You will receive assignments designed to teach you various tools in Lightroom, as well as links to recordings of our Zoom sessions that will help you move forward with this program and remind you of all the things you learned in this workshop.
Meanwhile, be sure to carefully read our FAQs, as well as the various links in the box above. They should hopefully answer almost any question you might have.
